About WebCaretakers

A calculator hub built by a human, not a content farm. Here is who is behind it, why it exists, and where to find me if something on this site is wrong or could be better.

Who runs this site

My name is Andrew Laws. I have been building, breaking, and fixing websites since 1999. Today I run Yeseo, an SEO and AI consultancy, and WebCaretakers is a personal project that grew out of a long-held soft spot for the kind of genuinely useful web that existed before every page became a funnel.

You can read more about my professional work, credentials, and client roster at yeseo.io. The personal-brand side of things lives at andrewlaws.com, including coaching and speaking work. This site is where I make the kind of small, focused tools that used to live on every corner of the 2001-era web.

I also write and tinker at lawsie.com, which is the personal-blog side of things. If a calculator on here ever saved you a meaningful amount of time or money, there is a buy me a pint page over there. It is entirely optional and there is no tip jar on this site itself, by design.

There is also a calculator-by-calculator author hub if you want to see everything I've built here in one place.

Why this site exists

The webcaretakers.com domain has been registered since 2001. For the best part of two decades it covered web hosting, broadband, email marketing and small business IT. Rather than let a domain with that much history collect cobwebs, it made more sense to rebuild it as something useful: a collection of free, honest calculators that help people make small decisions well.

The rules I set for myself at the start are still the rules:

  • No sign-up, ever. If a calculator needs an account, something has gone wrong in the design.
  • Everything runs in your browser. The numbers you type do not leave your device. There is no server-side maths, no logging of inputs, no "we saw you looked at this".
  • Show the workings. Every calculator has a "Prove it" button that explains how the number was arrived at. You should never have to take the result on faith.
  • Plain English. If a tool cannot explain itself without jargon, it has failed.

How the site is funded

Two ways. One, programmatic ads (Google AdSense, likely moving to a managed partner once traffic justifies it). Two, affiliate links on a small number of pages where it is genuinely useful to point people towards a service or product. Every affiliate link is disclosed in the footer of every page. No one pays to be recommended, and no calculator is designed to funnel you towards a specific partner. If the calculator says 50 Mbps is enough for your household, that is what it says, regardless of whether the partner we link to charges more for 150 Mbps.

Who to contact

For anything at all (wrong answer, typo, idea for a tool, privacy or data query), use the contact page. I read every message; I reply to most within a few days.
