Tip Calculator
Explain like I'm 5 (what even is this calculator?)
Type in the bill. Pick how much of a tip to add. Say how many people are splitting it. The calculator gives you the grand total and the per-person share, with an optional "round up per person" box for when the arithmetic is otherwise going to produce $14.37 per head and ruin the end of the meal.

How much to tip
This depends heavily on where you are. In the US, service staff are often paid a sub-minimum "tipped wage" and genuinely rely on tips, so 18% to 22% on sit-down meals is standard and 15% now reads as stingy. Counter service and takeaway are a grey area: nothing required, a couple of dollars appreciated. Hotels, taxis, and hair appointments have their own conventions and you can find longer guides elsewhere.
In the UK, an optional service charge of 10% to 12.5% is usually already on the bill at sit-down restaurants. If it is, that's the tip; don't double up unless the service was genuinely brilliant. If it isn't, 10% is a polite round number. Pubs, cafés and takeaway don't expect tips at all.
Everywhere else: read the room, ask a local, don't overthink it.
How round-up-per-person works
Tick the box and the calculator ceils each person's share to the next whole currency unit, then recomputes the total and the tip so everything adds up. So $23.50 split three ways at 18% (which would normally be $9.24 each) becomes $10 each, total $30, tip $6.50. Slightly over-tipped, but nobody has to fish out a fifty-cent piece and the waiter gets a better night.

Common questions
What is a standard tip percentage?
US: 18% to 22% sit-down, 15% now considered low. UK: 10% to 12.5% optional service charge, often already on the bill. Check before tipping again.
Pre-tax or post-tax total?
Technically pre-tax. In practice most people tip on the post-tax total. Costs pennies more and saves an argument.
How do I split a bill evenly when the numbers are awkward?
Tick "round up per person". Each person's share rounds up to the next whole unit, the tip absorbs the difference, and the sums still reconcile.
Is any of my data sent anywhere?
No. Everything is worked out in your browser. The bill total, the tip, the split, none of it leaves your device.
